the guardian
The Guardian considers the balance between presence, structure, and relational encounter. The work is a plaster cast of a figure modelled from life, mounted on wooden fence posts that function as stilts, creating verticality both in stance and elevation. This height establishes a dialogue between the viewer, body, and surrounding space, while the figure’s ceramic floral and organic garlands extend the relational reading. Its multiple discrete elements maintain independence yet operate in dialogue, exploring tension, interdependence, and contingency. Fragmentation is present in the separation between figure and support, allowing provisional balance to emerge. Through the combination and transformation of plaster, wood, and ceramic, the work enacts an alchemical process, where weight, balance, and surface mediate perception, and simple materials are transformed into a relational, animated presence that unfolds dynamically within the environment.
